NVIDIA Corporation (NasdaqGS:NVDA) has announced that its AI computing platform has “smashed performance records in the latest round of MLPerf,” – which “makes benchmarks for measuring training and inference performance of ML hardware, software, and services.” NVIDIA came in first in “every test across all six application areas for data center and edge computing systems in the second version of MLPerf Inference,” encompassing computer vision, recommendation systems, natural language understanding, speech recognition and medical imaging. Ian Buck, general manager and vice president of Accelerated Computing at NVIDIA, commented:
“We’re at a tipping point as every industry seeks better ways to apply AI to offer new services and grow their business. The work we’ve done to achieve these results on MLPerf gives companies a new level of AI performance to improve our everyday lives.”
Veritone, Inc. (NasdaqGS:VERI) has announced a strategic relationship with automated workflow solutions provider GovQA, LLC, to “enable state and local government agencies to increase transparency and expedite the release of public records requests.” This endeavour will integrate the former’s aiWARE-powered Veritone Redact with the GovQA Public Records Management Solution, which according to the press release will “help agencies expedite requests in accordance with records laws, save taxpayer money and foster greater public trust.” Jon Gacek, Head of Government, Legal and Compliance at Veritone, explained:
"As cameras capture more of our daily lives, we’ve seen a massive increase in crimes and law enforcement interactions captured on video, whether it be by police body cam or a citizen’s smartphone. When the public asks for that footage, delivering it quickly, one of the hallmarks of transparency, is a challenge because personal information has to be redacted. AI gives agencies the power to redact in mere hours what used to take them days."

A report published by Research and Markets finds that AI is projected to account for 34 percent of investments in the global Smart Cities market in the forecast period 2020-2025.
