Square, Inc. (NYSE:SQ) is proceeding with plans to build a bitcoin (BTC) hardware wallet, according to recent tweets from the company’s Hardware Lead Jesse Dorogusker, and CEO Jack Dorsey. On June 4, Dorsey tweeted:

Square is considering making a hardware wallet for #bitcoin. If we do it, we would build it entirely in the open, from software to hardware design, and in collaboration with the community.

And yesterday Dorogusker replied to Dorsey’s comments in a tweet:

“We have decided to build a hardware wallet and service to make bitcoin custody more mainstream. We’ll continue to ask and answer questions in the open. This community’s response to our thread about this project has been awesome - encouraging, generous, collaborative, & inspiring.”

Riot Blockchain, Inc. (NasdaqGS:RIOT) has reported its June production and operations updates. Highlights include the production of 243 BTC, representing an increase of about 406 percent over its June 2020 production of 48 BTC. An excerpt from the press release reads:

The exodus of Bitcoin mining from China has resulted in a downward difficulty adjustment and lower global network hash rate. As such, Riot is currently mining more Bitcoin per day than at any time in the Company’s history. While it is broadly expected that many Chinese miners will eventually relocate, the Company estimates that it could be quite some time before the global Bitcoin mining hash rate returns to its previous high of 180 exahash per second (“EH/s”), last observed earlier this year.

Cointelegraph reports that First Midwest Bank’s trust division holds 29,498 shares of Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust (OTC:GBTC) as of the second quarter of 2021. The Illinois-based financial services company increased its shares of GBTC by over 283 percent since the first quarter of 2021, “from 7,693 shares at the end of March to 29,498 shares in two separate lots on June 30.”
