BlackBerry (NYSE:BB) recently announced the release of BlackBerry Optics Context Analysis Engine (CAE), a new endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution, featuring “cryptomining and cryptojacking detection for Intel-based [NasdaqGS:INTC] commercial PCs.” According to the press release, the CAE “leverages unique CPU telemetry from Intel® Threat Detection Technology (Intel® TDT) to provide enterprises and SMBs unparalleled detection of cryptojacking attempts.” Josh Lemos, VP, Research & Intelligence, BlackBerry, explained:

"Given the cost associated with mining cryptocurrency and the payments of ransomware demands on the decline, cryptojacking becomes an attractive option for threat actors to generate revenue. With our new cryptojacking detection and response capabilities, we're looking to make this practice a thing of the past, providing enterprises and their employees with a turn-key solution that will enable them to thwart cryptojacking attempts and ensure their software and hardware are used for their intended purposes. The days of exploiting unsuspecting users for free CPU time are over."

Singapore’s central bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), is eyeing cooperation with China on a central bank digital currency (CBDC). An article from Blockchain News quotes Meng Wenneng, the Director of the MAS:

“The Central Bank of China is very active in this area. Singapore and the Central Bank of China have a lot of exchanges, and both sides are discussing the CBDC-related landing scenarios.”

Furthermore, according to an article on Cointelegraph, MAS managing director Ravi Menon made comments urging for cooperation between Facebook’s (NasdaqGS:FB) Libra cryptocurrency project, and Singapore’s own blockchain-powered interbank payment project “Project Ubin”:

“We should not reject the value of Libra, but should have more discussions with them.”

Ebang, the Chinese Bitcoin mining manufacturer, will “be listed on Nasdaq Global Market under the ticker EBON later this week,” according to Cointelegraph. Ebang plans to raise $125 million in its IPO, which if successful, could bring its market value “close to $800 million.” Blockstream chief strategy officer Samson Mow told Cointelegraph:

“This is great for the Bitcoin mining industry because as more ASIC manufacturers go public we have more transparency and accountability.”

Mow went on to indicate that Ebang is “one of the more reliable manufacturers in this space.”
