Stocks discussed: (CSE:NTAR) (NYSE:V) (NYSE:BLK)

Bitcoin’s (BTC) rally may be losing a bit of steam as it has so far failed to secure support at $27,000, fluctuating between that and $26,000 for the past 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap. Some analysts anticipate a rally in the altcoin market, with the biggest of these, Ether (ETH), having trading above $700 for the first time since May 2018.

One altcoin that is less fortunate is XRP, which has dropped further, registering a loss of roughly 60 percent in the last week. This was not aided by the announcement yesterday that crypto exchange giant Coinbase is suspending XRP trading pairs on January 19. The official blog post says the company “will continue to monitor legal developments related to XRP and update our customers as more information becomes available.”

Virtual and augmented reality company NexTech AR Solutions Corp. (CSE:NTARannounced that it plans to make an initial investment of $2 million in Bitcoin and “may add more in 2021.” The company’s CEO, Evan Gappelberg, said:

“Our investment in Bitcoin is part of our new capital diversification and allocation strategy with the intent to maximize long-term value for our shareholders. This initial investment reflects our belief that Bitcoin is a long-term store of value and an attractive investment asset with more long-term appreciation potential than holding cash, which is currently yielding 0.06%. Bitcoin is a digital version of gold which has a total market capitalization of $10trillion versus Bitcoin’s total market capitalization of only $500billion. We think that as part of the digital transformation a paradigm shift to digital gold is underway and as Bitcoin is seen more and more as a store of value, just like gold, it will catch up to gold.”

Cointelegraph reports that Simplex, a fiat-to-crypto on-ramp service provider, has partnered with Visa (NYSE:V) to allow its more than 200 client firms to issue crypto debit cards. Simplex is now considered a principal member of Visa in Europe, a status enjoyed by fellow crypto company Coinbase. A Simplex spokesperson told Cointelegraph:

“The principal membership is what enables us to roll this out to our partner network, basically giving any Simplex partner the ability to offer a crypto or fiat Visa card.”

Investment management giant BlackRock (NYSE:BLK) has posted a job listing for “Vice President, Blockchain Lead.” According to the job description, the purpose of the job is “to create and implement strategies designed to drive demand for the firm's offerings and enhance the value proposition to clients of the firm’s investments and technology offerings.” According to an article from Forbes, BlackRock:

“…manages around $8 trillion worth of assets,” and “sent shockwaves through bitcoin and cryptocurrency markets in recent weeks after its chief investment officer said bitcoin is "here to stay" and Larry Fink, BlackRock's chief executive, warned the growing popularity of bitcoin and digital currencies is having a "real impact" on the U.S. dollar.”
