NY State Grants 18th BitLicense, Canaan Considering Second IPO Attempt, Ledger and Legacy Partner to Provide Institutional Crypto Custody and Swiss President Favour’s “Quick and Clear” Blockchain Regulations
The New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) has granted a virtual currency license to Tagomi Trading LLC, a subsidiary of Tagomi Holdings Inc. This is the 18th BitLicense issued by the state. Greg Tusar, CEO of Tagomi Trading LLC, said:
"We are excited that DFS has approved our application as New York's first agency brokerage for virtual currencies. Our team of industry veterans has developed our order routing services with sophisticated clients in mind, and we look forward to expanding our presence with New Yorkers. We appreciate the DFS's thorough review and careful approach to virtual currency market participants to make for a more transparent and equitable virtual currency landscape.”
CoinDesk reports that Canaan Creative, the company that makes Avalon bitcoin miner, might attempt an IPO again, just months after their application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange had lapsed. Sources indicate that the company is eyeing the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s newly created Science and Technology (Sci-Tech) Innovation Board for listing. There is also a rumour that Canaan will opt for an American exchange such as the New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq.
According to Cointelegraph, hardware wallet maker Ledger is partnering with Hong Kong-licensed trust and custody company Legacy to provide institutional cryptocurrency custody services. The service will be based on the Ledger Vault custody solution, which supports 17 cryptocurrencies, including: Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Zcash (ZEC). Additionally, the collaboration will allow Legacy Trust to also offer custody of Ethereum-based ERC-20 compliant tokens.
At the CV Crypto Valley Summit in Zug, Swiss president Ueli Maurer said the regulation of blockchain should be “quick and clear”, according to an article from FinNews. A loose translation of the President’s comments at in Zug read:
“Switzerland is well positioned with regard to blockchain technology and its authority "is constantly looking for ways to stay two steps ahead. It was important for the industry to challenge the federal government with its ideas. The scene should not hesitate to approach the state.”
